Coils / Rest coils
Example:
Recommended loading for rest coils. An example for loading and securing twelve rest coils of 2.4 tons each on an articulated lorry, shown in a diagram:
Before and during the loading process, mats are placed beneath and between each rest coil as well as between the coils and the front and rear end (1).
The coils are to be loaded individually or in groups from the front and rear end. In front of the first and behind the last coil wedges should be placed and secured to relieve the end walls (2). In order to avoid accidents, wedges should be positioned in front of the rear coils to stop them from moving. The locking coil (3) is placed in between the gap in the centre of the lorry and is securely fastened by means of two lashings going through the coil centre (4). The lashing angles must be between 45° and 60°. Fairly flat running diagonal lashings towards the centre are to be attached to the first and last coils to relieve the end walls (5). Chains are the preferred means for fastening.
Tensioning devices sensitive to sharp edges must only be used in connection with edge protections. Fittings, lashing means and lashing points must not be exposed to undue bending stresses. Gaps between unsecured rest coils and side walls are to be filled with squared timber or other similar material to prevent the coils from telescoping (6).
