Advice for using the Anti-Slipping Mats
Friction between load and loading surface as well as in stacked loads between the stacks plays an important factor for load securing measures. It is important for tightly loaded goods, and it is certainly the „measure of all things“ for securing friction-prone loads.
Coefficient friction values (µ-values) of certain materials are always depending on several factors such as surface quality, dampness respectively moisture, dirt, dust, grease, oil etc. The particular literature never indicates a specific individual value but ranges, e.g. for friction of dry wood on dry wood my = 0.2 to 0.5; for wet wood it is my 0.2 to 0.25. To calculate the load securing measures, the correct coefficient friction values must be known. High coefficient friction values are necessary to secure loads most economically.
The ANTI-SLIP MATS increase friction considerably. To operate with secured values, it is necessary to use tested material.
Tested mats must fulfil the following criteria:
- Minimum thickness 8 mm
- Sufficient resistance against chemicals such as oil, grease, corrosion protection products
- Sufficient resistance against the UV-radiation from direct sunlight
- Imprint- and tensile strength
- Sliding friction values of a minimum of 0.4 under exactly defined conditions
These conditions do not represent laboratory conditions but loading surfaces, which can be clean, wet or dry and consist of steel or wood. In practice ANTI-SLIPPING MATS with a coefficient friction value of up to µ = 0.6 are used.
Tested ANTI-SLIPPING MATS with the mentioned coefficient friction value serve as a reliable material for securing loads.
REMEMBER:
High coefficient friction values can reduce load securing facilities considerably.
PREPARATION:
The loading surface must be swept clean and a friction increasing mat (ANTI-SLIPPING MAT) should be placed beneath each unit to be loaded.
If the goods are stacked, then ANTI-SLIPPING MATS must be placed in between each layer.
PRE-TENSIONING:
As vibrations due to uneven road surfaces and other influences may cause the friction to become ineffective, securing a load by friction should only be carried out together with additionally lashing straps and a relevant pretension. In case the load starts moving caused by vibrations, then this is prevented by the lashing straps. In this way it can be ascertained that the friction remains efficient. The lashing straps soften the vibrations and avoid the load taking off.
REPLACEMENT:
As a rule the ANTI-SLIPPING MATS can be re-used several times! Should the ANTI-SLIPPING MATS however be worn down such that their minimum thickness is less than 8 mm, they cannot be used anymore and must be replaced!
Our lashing strap protection is easily positioned, protects the straps and prevents them from being dislocated.
Our anti-slipping-pads can be used at selected spots on pallets or lattice boxes to secure them from slipping.
Strips of anti-slipping material are easily placed and reduce valuable loading time.
